Holiday World just ended a 66 day marketing campaign with the reveal of its first steel roller coaster: Thunderbird.
You might wonder if this new attraction was really worth the more than two month long tease. Well, if the finished product is anything like the video reveal below, it looks like Thunderbird is going to be one amazing ride!
Here are three reasons why we’re excited for this new attraction (and why you should be too).
1. It’s a one of a kind experience
Though there are several other winged coasters around the country manufactured by Swiss firm Bolliger & Mabillard, Thunderbird is the only one with a speed launch that propels riders from zero to sixty miles per hour in 3.5 seconds at the opening of the ride. Though the shape of the ride vehicle has been used in other attractions in North America, the launched opening should create a sense of speed and urgency that those other attractions won’t be able to match.
2. It has amazing technical specs
Is that launch sequence not intense enough? Over the course of Thunderbird, riders will experience a 14-story Immelmann loop, two banked turns, a zero-g roll, a barrel roll and a massive 125-foot loop. Though Thunderbird can’t compete with some of the more extreme coasters at parks like Cedar Point, these specs are enough to get any thrill ride fan’s pulse pounding, and should make Thunderbird a “destination” coaster in its own right.
