Update: Disney has reportedly confirmed to Cast Members on the Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular that the show is NOT closing in the immediate future. Nonetheless, speculation continues over what will replace the American Idol Experience.
Original story: Last week it was announced that The American Idol Experience at Disney's Hollywood Studios was going through a slow draw-down through the end of 2014 and the show would be closing outright in 2015. Though rumors swirled about a potential Frozen stage show taking over the American Idol stage, some late breaking news has put that idea on hold…
Last night rumors began circulating that The Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular is also likely closing in 2015, which means the Echo Lake area of Disney’s Hollywood Studios could be almost completely vacant by this time next year.
Now of course you’re free to draw your own conclusions about this, but evidence seems to be mounting that Star Wars Land is all but a certainty at this point. Look at the evidence: the space is too small for a Cars Land Florida spinoff (which is rumored to have been shelved for now anyway), and the closing attractions are all in the prime space in front of Star Tours. There’s plenty of land there for another attraction or two, and if you look towards Commissary Lane (which could also become enveloped by Star Wars Land), you’ve got the ABC Commissary restaurant that can easily be re-themed to resemble a certain “wretched hive of scum and villainy”, if you get my drift.
Of course, if work is set to begin on Star Wars Land in 2015, it would mean closure of a significant part of the park. If the area was to expand into the Commissary Lane area, currently available space could get even tighter. And depending on what attractions are planned, this area could be closed off for a year or more
As said before, Star Wars Land is not confirmed yet. However, with the closure of all the attractions around Echo Lake and directly in fornt of the current Star Tours area, it’s hard not to see these closures as the first step towards the realization of Star Wars Land.
