Cedar Fair has announced that it will invest more than $50 million as part of a major expansion plan for Carowinds, which will see the park add several new rides and restaurants.
The company expects to create an additional 15 full-time jobs and 270 seasonal jobs as a result of the plan, which promises to include the installation of world record-breaking attractions.
Announcing the news, Richard Zimmerman, Cedar Fair's Chief Operating Officer, said: "The continued growth in the Charlotte market presents a unique opportunity for our Carowinds amusement park, which we believe is ready for record-breaking attractions. Over the next three years we intend to make several significant investments in both the amusement and water park areas, including new rides and attractions, new and upgraded food locations, and general infrastructure improvements. We plan to expand the capacity of Carowinds in all areas to appropriately serve its market and provide our guests with a 'Best Day of Summer' experience each and every time they visit our park."
Located on the border between North and South Carolina, Carowinds is home to a wide array of roller coasters (13 in total), thrill rides and water rides. While the park's main focus is on the teenage and young adult market, it does also host a sprawling children's area, Planet Snoopy, themed around the Peanuts characters. Its biggest draw is Intimidator, a Bolliger & Mabillard Hypercoaster that opened in 2010.
