Germany's Heide Park is to open a the country's first Bolliger & Mabillard Wing Rider roller coaster in April 2014, the park has announced.
Heide Park will follow in the footsteps of Merlin-operated sister parks Gardaland and Thorpe Park, which host Raptor and The Swarm respectively. The coaster will be installed at a cost of €15 million, with construction work having already begun.
As on Raptor and The Swarm, the ride's trains will feature "wings" that protrude over the sides of the track. This enables the creation of "near-miss" experiences, and the coaster is likely to interact with the surrounding scenery.
The ride will feature a relatively short 2,532 feet circuit, but will pack in five inversions including an Immelmann loop, a zero-g roll and a pretzel loop. Riders will hit a top speed of 62 miles per hour, with the coaster's lift hill standing at 131 feet tall. The white track has already been delivered to Heide Park and installation is underway.
Heide Park is yet to announce a name for its latest new attraction.
