Universal Studios Florida has opened the final addition to its new Springfield area, the Kang & Kodos' Twirl 'n' Hurl interactive flat ride.
Kang & Kodos' Twirl 'n' Hurl features the aliens made famous by the Treehouse of Horror episodes of the The Simpsons, and sees guests spinning and bobbing up and down on the end of long arms. The ride is themed around an attack on Springfield by the extraterrestrial pair, and features twelve three-seater "flying saucers" that rotate around the central model of Kodos.
Riders are greeted by the alien duo as they pass through the ride's entrance gates, before waiting in a line that features TV screens showing clips of Simpsons characters. The modest capacity of the ride means that waits are likely to be long on peak days, and the ride is part of Universal's premium Express Pass queue-jumping system.
Once on board, the goal is to defeat the citizens of Springfield. Infrared beams placed at different levels represent targets, and riders must break the beams to trigger a noise. They can do this by controlling the height of their ship, much as they would on traditional flat rides like the Dumbo - The Flying Elephant attractions at Disney parks.

The Springfield area surrounds The Simpsons Ride, which opened in 2008. Kang & Kodos' Twirl 'n' Hurl is the only new ride to be added as part of the expansion, but a host of Simpsons-themed restaurants also form part of the line-up. Details of these can be found in our Universal Studios Florida restaurant guide.
