Rumors of a long-anticipated update to the Soarin' attractions at Disney California Adventure and Epcot have surfaced once again, this time suggesting a 2016 opening date.
Disney and More, which previously reported that the attractions will receive a "Soarin' Over The World" update, now suggests that the new version will debut at Shanghai Disneyland under the name "Soarin' Over The Horizon". It is expected to reuse the existing Soarin' ride system, but will dramatically expand the scope of the current ride movie, which takes in a range of areas in California.
Previous reports have suggested that the movie will include flights over England, France, Italy, Egypt, India, China, Japan and the USA's Grand Canyon and New York. However, Disney has yet to confirm the attraction itself, let alone the locations used in its production.
Soarin' Over California opened at Disney California Adventure in February 2001, becoming one of the headline attractions at the new park. An identical attraction, known simply as Soarin', opened at Epcot in 2005. The attraction is a simulator-style ride which sees guests hanging from the ceiling as they "fly" over big-screen projections of California landmarks.
