Oakwood confirms further details of Neverland expansion for 2013

Oakwood Theme Park has revealed further details of the new £4 million expansion that will open at the park in May 2013, confirming that it will have a Peter Pan theme.

Dubbed Neverland, the area will feature a host of family-friendly attractions. It will be headlined by Skull Rock, a pirate-themed log flume that will pass through a 10 metre tall skull structure. Inside the skull, guests will see a number of themed scenes before plunging down a drop into a splash zone.

Other additions will include the Lost Boys Adventure, Neverland Chase, Aerodrome and Tink's Flying School (all likely to be flat rides), the Crocodile Coaster (a junior roller coaster) and the Jolly Roger (a miniature swinging ship). The Sights of London taxi ride will take in sights including the Tower of London, Big Ben and Nelson's Column. Hook's House of Havoc will be a soft play area catering to the park's very youngest guests. Finally, the Journey to Neverland walkthrough area will take guests on an interactive journey through the Darling family home and above the streets of London, before finishing in Neverland itself.

Though it features fewer rides and attractions than some of its larger competitors in neighbouring England, Oakwood is still home to some major draws. This includes the Megafobia wooden roller coaster (which consistently ranks highly in enthusiast polls), Speed (a Gerstlauer Euro-Fighter coaster boasting a 97-degree first drop) and Drenched (a water coaster that stands at an intimidating 120-feet-tall).

The park changed hands in 1998, moving from family ownership into the hands of Spanish firm Aspro Ocio S.A. Fewer new rides have been added since, with the owners believed to be focusing on improving its profitability.
