In this week's poll, we ask which of the major new additions to the Universal Orlando Resort you are most excited about.
It's been a big few years for the Universal Orlando Resort. The opening of the Wizarding World of Harry Potter in 2010 proved to be a spectacular success, helping to establish Islands of Adventure as one of the top 10 theme parks in the world by attendance. The impact has been so huge that Universal is even now straying into Disney territory, adding the budget-friendly Cabana Bay Beach Resort to attract families for longer stays.
But what about Universal Studios Florida, the resort's original theme park? It has certainly not been neglected, with the addition of Despicable Me: Minion Mayhem, Universal's Cinematic Spectacular and the Universal Superstar Parade. Still, Universal Orlando feels that the park needs a little more to encourage guests to buy expensive multi-park tickets.
During the next two years, Universal Studios Florida will receive a stunning line-up of new additions. First, its clone of Transformers: The Ride - 3D (already a smash-hit at Universal Studios Hollywood and Universal Studios Singapore) will debut on June 30, 2013. Riders will join in the battle between the Autobots and Decepticons, using technology borrowed from the all-time classic Amazing Adventures of Spiderman.
In 2014, Harry Potter will land at Universal Studios Florida. A new land, based around London as seen in the Harry Potter movies, will open at the park. Its headline attraction will be a high-tech roller coaster themed around Gringotts Bank, but expect to see many new restaurants and shops selling unique merchandise, too.
The final piece of the jigsaw will be truly groundbreaking. The Hogwarts Express train will link the existing Wizarding World at Islands of Adventure with the new London-themed area, providing a virtual journey to and from Hogwarts. An attraction of this nature, linking two separate but similarly-themed areas in different theme parks, is almost completely without precedent. It's the first attraction in our database of 3,500 rides and shows that we've need to categorise as belonging to two theme parks!
But which of these exciting new additions to Universal Orlando are you most looking forward to?
