Universal Orlando has confirmed that the opening date for Transformers: The Ride - 3D at Universal Studios Florida has been set as June 20, 2013.
The attraction is likely to "soft open" to guests within the next few weeks, to enable Universal staff to get to grips with its operation ahead of the grand opening. Transformers: The Ride - 3D has been constructed at a rapid pace since work started in summer 2012, with Universal hoping to maintain its recent attendance gains ahead of the opening of a London-themed Harry Potter land at Universal Studios Florida in 2014.
Transformers: The Ride - 3D is a clone of the existing attraction at Universal Studios Hollywood and Universal Studios Singapore. The ride employs a very similar system to the Amazing Adventures of Spiderman attraction at neighboring Islands of Adventure.
As with the Michael Bay-directed movies it is based upon (and the earlier toys and cartoons), the attraction features robots that "transform" into cars, planes, tanks and other vehicles. Riders are placed into the middle of a pitched battle between the human-friendly Autobots and the evil Decepticons.
Universal Orlando has launched a competition to win a trip to the grand opening of Transformers: The Ride - 3D via its official Facebook page.
