Legendary ride designer John Wardley, the man behind many of the UK's most popular theme park attractions, has released his autobiography.
Creating My Own Nemesis is now available in paperback for £9.99 via Amazon.co.uk. The 158-page book details Wardley's extraordinary career, which includes work in the circus, theatre and special effects industries as well as theme park ride design.
Wardley was responsible for the design of Nemesis, Oblivion and Air, three of the most popular roller coasters at Alton Towers. In his earlier years, he also designed the groundbreaking Bubbleworks and Fifth Dimension dark rides at Chessington World of Adventures, the latter of which has since been converted into Tomb Blaster.
Following the debut of The Smiler at Alton Towers in May, Wardley plans to retire. In recent years, he has acted as a consultant on projects at Merlin's UK theme parks, including the construction of Thirteen at Alton Towers.
Theme Park Tourist's editor Nick Sim recently began work on his own book about the history of Alton Towers. Don't forget that you can still contribute your own memories of working at or visiting the park, with a £10 Amazon voucher (just enough to cover the purchase of Wardley's autobiography) on offer in return.
