Cedar Point is aiming to raise funds for a two local charities by auctioning off seats on the first rides on its soon-to-open GateKeeper roller coaster.
The auction aims to raise funds for the Cleveland Clinic Children's Hospital and United Way of Erie County. Each charity is auctioning off 32 seats - one trainload each. The winning bidders will also receive free complementary admission to Cedar Point, plus breakfast and a souvenir T-shirt, medallion and on-ride photo.
Bids can be made for the Cleveland Clinic Children's Hospital via the official Cedar Point website. Bids supporting United Way of Erie County can be made via the organisation's website.
The park also plans to run a special "Carousel for Kids" fundraising programme for the Cleveland Clinic Children's Hospital. Beginning in May, guests will be able to purchase $5 raffle tickets for the chance to win a brand new car from Tim Lally Chevrolet. Cedar Point will also donate 10 cents to the charity for every rider on the Midway Carousel, Kiddy Kingdom Carousel and Cedar Downs Racing Derby throughout the month of July.
GateKeeper's circuit will feature a total of 6 inversions, including a dive loop, an Immelmann loop, a giant corkscrew, two zero-g rolls and an inclined dive loop. The Bolliger & Mabillard Wing Rider coaster's track will be teal-colored, with white supports, and will come into close contact with buildings and portals in the park's entrance gates to provide a "near-miss" sensation.
