Alton Towers hopes to reopen its gates on Monday, March 25, 2013, having been forced to remain closed for three consecutive days by heavy snowfall.
The resort was closed from Friday to Sunday, after snow made travel to the Staffordshire park very difficult. Alton Towers had been hoping to reopen on Sunday, but despite the efforts of staff to clear pathways conditions worsened and it made the decision to remain closed at 2pm on Saturday. However, it is hoped that the weather conditions will have improved by Monday.
A statement on the official Alton Towers website said of the closure: "In spite of our best efforts, we are very sorry to have to confirm that we will not be opening Alton Towers Theme Park this weekend, as we had hoped and planned, as continued snowfall across the Staffordshire Moorlands has made it impossible. Of course we are sorry for any disappointment this may cause to those who were planning to visit the Park, but the health & safety of our guests and employees has to be our priority and we have placed it above all else. Our efforts are now focused on ensuring the Resort is fully cleared and as many rides and attractions as possible are ready to open on Monday.”
Guests who had pre-booked tickets for any of the days the park was forced to close will be able to reuse them on any day throughout the 2013 season (excluding concert and event dates). Those who have booked stays at the Alton Towers Hotel and the Splash Landings Hotel can call 0871 222 1100 on Monday to discuss changing the date of their stay.
