SeaWorld Orlando confirms Antarctica: Empire of the Penguin opening date as May 24, 2013

SeaWorld Orlando has confirmed that its ambitious new dark ride, Antarctica: Empire of the Penguin, will open in time for the Memorial Day weekend on May 24, 2013.

The attraction is being billed by SeaWorld Orlando as "the world's coldest theme park ride", and will also host a new penguin exhibit. Its plot will revolve around a gentoo penguin, who will lead guests on an adventure through icy waters from a penguin's viewpoint. Guests will be able to select one of several "thrill levels", with the 8-person vehicles behaving appropriately.

Antarctica: Empire of the Penguin will employ a "trackless" ride system that will enable it to offer a different experience every time. Guests will be able to select one of several "thrill levels", with the 8-person vehicles behaving appropriately.

At the end of the ride, guests will disembark their vehicles for a closer look at the penguins, in a similar experience to the existing Wild Arctic simulator attraction. The new exhibit will house gentoo, rockhopper, adelie and king penguins.

With the ride's opening date drawing closer, SeaWorld has released a version of its official Antarctica: Empire of the Penguin app for Android devices. The app had previously only been avalailable on iPhone and iPad devices. The Android version is available to download from the Google Play store.
