Theme park news round-up - February 18, 2013

Voices of Liberty

Fans of Walt Disney World have been clamouring for an update to the former Pleasure Island area for years. Plans have come and gone, with Disney dropping the Hyperion Wharf concept after a lukewarm reception to its announcement. Now, though, it seems that new concepts are firmly on the drawing board. Meanwhile, the Hogwarts Express is beginning to emerge at Islands of Adventure, and the first riders have experienced Sesame Street Spaghetti Space Chase at Universal Studios Singapore.

Walt Disney World

After Disney dropped plans to convert the former Pleasure Island area of Downtown Disney into Hyperion Wharf, ParkRumors reports that Disney has now filed another plan to convert the area into "Disney Springs", boasting six distinct themed areas.

Epcot and Disneyland

Disney has announced its latest Limited Time Magic event, with the Voices of Liberty a cappella group due to sing a selection of President's Day-themed numbers at Epcot and Disneyland. The celebrations will take place from February 18-24 at the America Gardens Theatre at Epcot, and from February 18-19 and February 22-24 at Disneyland's Main Street Opera House.

Islands of Adventure

Some impressive photos of ongoing construction work at the Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Islands of Adventure have been posted to Orlando United. They appear to show progress on the creation of a station for the Hogwarts Express train, which will link the area with a new Harry Potter-themed land in Universal Studios Florida.

Universal Studios Singapore

Annual passholders at Universal Studios Singapore have been previewing Sesame Street Spaghetti Space Chase, the park's new family-friendly dark ride. The first videos and reviews have now appeared online.

Adventure Island

Southend-on-Sea's Adventure Island amusement park has launched its first-ever Annual Pass, as it kicks off it 2013 season. Prices range from £45 to £75.
