Theme park news round-up - 13th December 2012

Toy Story Mania

Fans planning to visit Disneyland during 2013 may be disappointed to hear that Big Thunder Mountain Railroad will be out of action for much of the year, in order to undergo a major refurbishment. Meanwhile, Disney is again toying with its FASTPASS+ system, Chessington has started welcoming animals for its Zufari attraction, and there's a fascinating look at Hong Kong Disneyland's Mystic Point.

Disneyland

Disneyland has confirmed that its popular Big Thunder Mountain Railroad roller coaster will close on January 7, 2013, in order to undergo a major refurbishment. The coaster is not expected to return to action until the fall, meaning that the park will be without one of its major rides for the majority of the 2013 season.

Disney's Hollywood Studios

Disney is again testing its FASTPASS+ system, which will enable guests to pre-book rides on the resort's major attractions. This time around, its investigating the impact of the system on several of Disney's Hollywood Studios' most popular rides.

Universal Studios Florida

Spins the World takes a look at construction progress on the Gringotts Bank coaster, which will form part of Universal Studios Florida's new London-themed Harry Potter land.

Kings Dominion

KDfansite offers a great look at Kings Dominion's Boneyard, which currently hosts a number of disused rides from the KidZville area, as well as El Dorado.

Chessington World of Adventures

Three white rhinoceroses are currently settling into their new home at Chessington World of Adventures, as the park gears up for the opening of a major new ride in 2013. Zufari: Ride into Africa! will take guests on a tour in safari trucks around a number of animal exhibits, hosting the rhinos, giraffes and flamingos.

Hong Kong Disneyland

Dejiki offers a fascinating look at Mystic Point, the third and final new land that forms part of Hong Kong Disneyland's ambitious expansion. Due to open in summer 2013, the area is dominated by Mystic Manor, a unique new take on the Haunted Mansion concept.
