Theme park news round-up - 15th November 2012

Several months ago, Disney's Imagineers were caught testing a flying mechanical dragon over an airfield. Now, the company has launched a new social media campaign based around the mythical creatures, sparking rumors that it could be about to unleash the mock beasts at the Magic Kingdom. Meanwhile, The Simpsons could be set to expand their presence at Universal Studios Florida, and Ferrari World is launching a new show.

Magic Kingdom

Disney has begun an intriguing social media campaign via its blog, which is centered around dragons and the expanded New Fantasyland at Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom. It has a launched a new Tumblr blog at to support this campaign. Currently, the site hosts two videos, one of which shows what appears to be a flying dragon. Inevitably, this has led to speculation that Disney is getting ready to put the mechanical dragons that its Imagineering arm is known to have tested into action above New Fantasyland.

Meanwhile, Disney has also released a new video that offers a behind-the-scenes glimpse of the creation of the Cinderella's Holiday Wish and Castle Dream Lights displays at the Magic Kingdom.

Universal Studios Florida

Jim Hill takes a look at the area surrounding the Simpsons Ride at Universal Studios Florida, which is strongly rumored to be due to be converted into a larger-scale Simpons-themed land. According to Hill, the International Food and Film Festival restaurant is due to undergo a major makeover, being split into recreations of a Krusty Burger and Moe's Tavern as seen in the TV show. Meanwhile, a Ferris Wheel with a Krustyland theme could also be on its way to the park.

Ferrari World Abu Dhabi

Ferrari World Abu Dhabi is launching a new show, Red, replacing the former La Gara show. It will feature a 1950s Italian theme, with a plot centering a love triangle. The park has also teased a new family ride that will open "very soon", although details are currently thin on the ground.
