Lightwater Valley challenges guests to take marathon ride on The Ultimate

The Ultimate

Lightwater Valley is challenging fans to take a marathon ride on The Ultimate, the longest roller coaster in Europe, in aid of a local charity.

The theme park is seeking to raise funds for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance service, which plays an important part in delivering emergency services in the region. It is asking up to 76 guests to pay £100 to take part in the challenge, which will see them riding continuously on The Ultimate for an hour.

Whereas an hour might be long enough to pack in dozens of rides on most other coasters, The Ultimate's length means that participants will complete just 10 laps of its 7475-foot circuit. The ride was once the longest in the world, and still has the longest duration (in minutes) of any coaster.

The challenge will take place before the park opens on August 1, 2012. If it proves to be popular, Lightwater Valley will re-run it after the park closes in order to raise further funds.

To sign up for the "Ultimate Ride-a-thon", contact the Yorkshire Air Ambulance's Sophie Wilkinson on 01422 237900 or s.wilkinson@yaa.org.uk.
