Flamingo Land has opened its new attraction for the 2012 season, a 150-feet-tall Zamperla Vertical Swing ride dubbed Pterodactyl.
The ride had been undergoing tests earlier this month, and opened for its first full day on July 7. Similar to the WindSeeker and SkyScreamer rides that have been installed at Cedar Fair and Six Flags parks in the US during recent years, it offers a vertigo-inducing variation on classic "Chair-O-Plane" or "Waveswinger" attractions.
Riders on Pterodactyl sit in chairs that are suspended from a central gondola by chains. The gondola rises to the top of the tower, spinning as it goes. Guests swing out to the sides, taking in views of the entire park and beyond.
YouTube user mrmessy2 was on hand to catch Pterodactyl on its opening day, in the short video clip embedded below:
Pterodactyl sits at the heart of a small new area with a Stone Age theme (known as "Primeval"), and incorporates "animal print" sails. However, having only gained planning permission to install the ride in late May, Flamingo Land is yet to finish installation of the surrounding theming elements.
