Disneyland July 4 fireworks

In this week's poll, we ask whether you think it is worth braving the crowds to visit theme parks during major holidays.

With the Fourth of July celebrations fast approaching, theme parks all over the US are finalising last minute arrangements ready to throw open their gates for one of their busiest times of the season.

Cedar Point announced earlier this week its finalised plan of events, which is a fairly typical line-up. With nightly firework displays, late opening hours on select days, discounted tickets for US Armed Forces and a specially arranged performance by Carly Rae Jepsen on July 7 it is no surprised that tens of thousands of visitors are likely to descend on the park next seek. The scene will be repeated at parks across the country, with Disney parks in particular likely to be swamped by patriotic guests.

Independence Day is just one of the major holiday celebrations that get theme park fans flocking to their favourite theme parks. Halloween has become a significant period on the theme park calendar with parks all over the world planning for months and months to arrange the scariest and most haunting Halloween offerings. I never miss Scarefest at Alton Towers and Fright Nights at Thorpe Park, and can't fail to be impressed by the scale and scope of Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios Florida.

Then, of course, there's Christmas. Little surely needs to be said about the festive period at theme parks - such a magical time with parks overflowing with special events, fireworks, Santa's Grottos, ice dancing performances and much much more.

There's no getting away from the downsides of these holiday events, though: huge crowds, long queues and often inflated prices. Is it worth wrestling through thousands of other guests to join in the celebrations, or is it best just to avoid theme parks altogether during these periods?

it depends what is happening... yes the queues are massive, but if it's for a Halloween event, with late opening, and extra attractions, then it's worth it :)
