Disneyland will host its final Grad Nite event on Friday, June 22, 2012, with the graduation celebrations set to move to Disney California Adventure from 2013 onwards.
The Grad Nite events allow graduating high school students to party long into the night, enjoying exclusive access to rides and attractions, along with a range of musical entertainment. The annual events have been held at Disneyland since 1961, but will move across to its sister park next year now that a major expansion of Disney Califoria Adventure has been completed.
For the 2012 events, the Disneyland Resort has offered a special Park Hopper ticket to attendees, which enables them to visit both of its theme parks during the day. The after-hours party, which takes place from 11pm to 3am, will move across from Disneyland to Disney California Adventure next year, with special performances of the World of Color being part of the proceedings.
Disneyland's Grad Nites have developed a mixed reputation over the years. While many former attendees speak in glowing terms of the atmosphere at the events, some have questioned the wisdom of mixing partying teenagers with the park's safety-first ride systems. Walt Disney World dropped its own Grad Nites events in 2011, blaming increasing attendance at its theme parks during April and May for the decision.
Full information on the upcoming events for 2013 and beyond can be found on the Disneyland Grad Nite website.
