Disney's Art of Animation Resort, the newest hotel at Walt Disney World, has officially welcomed the first guests to its Finding Nemo wing.
In a ceremony co-hosted by Walt Disney World President Meg Croft and a host of Disney characters, the resort officially opened to the public on May 31, 2012. Three further wings, based on Cars, The Lion King and The Little Mermaid are due to open by September.
The new resort features 1,120 family suites, in addition to 864 standard hotel rooms. Walt Disney World is aiming to compete with nearby "value" resorts such as the Nickelodeon Suites Resort in Orlando, and has reused unfinished buildings that were originally earmarked for a second phase of construction of Disney's Pop Century Resort.
Describing the new resort, Walt Disney Imagineer Frank Paris said: "Our goal was to make guests feel like they have been immersed in the artistry and enchantment of Walt Disney and Disney-Pixar animated classics."
