Season passholders at Six Flags Great America have been among the first riders on X-Flight, the park's new "Wing Rider" roller coaster.
X-Flight will open to the general public on May 16, 2012, but passholders were offered special previews on May 12. It has become the second Bolliger & Mabillard Wing Rider coaster to open in the United States, following the recent debut of Wild Eagle at Dollywood.
Riders on X-Flight are suspended on "wings" on either side of its trains, enabling a number of "near-miss" elements to be included in its circuit. These can be seen in the "point-of-view" video embedded below, which was captured by Theme Park Review.
X-Flight's circuit featurse 5 inversions and a number of twists and drops, with riders hitting a top speed of 55 miles per hour. Included among its inversions are a barrel roll and a zero-g roll, while a unique element also sees the ride's trains pass through a narrow vertical gap in a mock control tower.
