Alton Towers closed on Sunday, April 29, 2012 due to severe weather conditions - the second time in less than a month that the park has been forced to shut its gates.
Earlier in April, the park closed for a full day due to snow, ice and gale-force winds. On this occasion, the park did actually open for the morning, but was subsequently forced to shut at 2.30pm due to heavy wind and rain.
Fan site Towers Times reports that several trees are believed to have been blown over inside Alton Towers, such was the strength of the winds. However, no serious damage is thought to have been caused to any of the park's attractions.
Alton Towers is expected to reopen as normal on Monday, April 30, with weather forecasters predicting improved conditions across much of the UK.
