LEGOLAND Malaysia is set to beat its target opening date in December 2012, with the park now due to debut to the public on September 15, 2012.

The first LEGOLAND theme park in Asia will be based on the same template as existing parks in the chain, and will be very similar to the recently-opened LEGOLAND Florida. Construction work is several months ahead of schedule, with 35,000 annual passes having already been sold.

LEGOLAND Malaysia will feature 7 themed areas and 40 attractions, all aimed at families with children aged 2-12. Owner Merlin Entertainments Group also plans to build a 249-room hotel on the site by early 2014.

The lands that will make up LEGOLAND Malaysia are all based on areas at existing LEGOLAND parks. Full details of these can be found in Theme Park Tourist's recent report.

Merlin currently operates LEGOLAND theme parks in England, Denmark, Germany, California and Florida. It was recently revealed that the company is also planning LEGOLAND Korea and LEGOLAND Japan.
