Alton Towers launches teaser website for 2013's SW7 roller coaster (April 2012)

Alton Towers has launched a new website dedicated to its upcoming roller coaster for the 2013 season, which is codenamed "Secret Weapon 7".

The mini-site, located at www.altontowers.com/2013/, reveals no details about the ride at present, although it does offer a sign-up form for guests to receive updates via e-mail. The black, silver and orange colour scheme is consistent with the existing rides in the X-Sector of Alton Towers, where SW7 will be located.

Posters advertising the new addition have also appeared in the park itself, on the fences surrounding the ride's construction site. This is currently occupied by the tent that once housed the Black Hole roller coaster, which is due to be removed prior to the end of the 2012 season.

SW7 will feature at least 8 inversions and 2 lift hills, and will be located alongside the existing Oblivion roller coaster in X-Sector. Alton Towers claims that the ride will feature a "world's first" element, the nature of which is yet to be confirmed.

Alton Towers has received planning permission from local authorities to push ahead with the installation of SW7, which is due to open in March 2013. The new addition will be the most expensive attraction ever installed at Alton Towers, with the £20 million budget topping the £15 million spent on constructing Thirteen in 2010.
