The chairman of Walt Disney Parks & Resorts has revealed that the Fantasyland expansion at the Magic Kingdom won't be completed until 2014, and not 2013 as previously claimed.
Tom Staggs told the Orlando Sentinel that a "final element" would be added to the area in 2014. This contradicts a previous timeline released by Walt Disney World, which listed the final phase as debuting in "late 2013".
In the original timeline, the final element to be completed was to be the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train roller coaster. This is likely to still be the case, with the ride's projected opening date having slipped into the following year.
Some elements of the expanded Fantasyland have already opened to the public, including large parts of the new Storybook Circus area. The next major addition is expected to be dark ride Under the Sea - Journey of the Little Mermaid, which is due to open in late 2012.
