Warner Bros. Movie World's Lethal Weapon - The Ride to become Arkham Asylum - Shock Therapy

Arkham Asylum - Shock Therapy

Warner Bros. Movie World has revealed the planned new theme for Lethal Weapon - The Ride, which will become Arkham Asylum - Shock Therapy when it reopens at Easter 2012.

The roller coaster will be the first ride in the world to be themed around Arkham Asylum, a psychiatric hospital that appears in a number of DC Comics stories. The ride's storyline will centre around Batman's enemy The Joker escaping from the asylum, with other criminally insane characters such as Harley Quinn and Killer Croc also expected to feature.

The Vekoma Suspended Looping Coaster was previously based on Mel Gibson's Lethal Weapon movie franchise, and was the first inverted coaster to open at an Australian theme park when it debuted in 1995. Standing at 109-feet-tall, it hits a top speed of 55 miles per hour during its 2,510-feet circuit.

As part of the refurbishment work, the coaster will receive all-new trains from manufacturer Kumbak. These will be equipped with an on-board audio system to help bring the Arkham Asylum - Shock Therapy storyline to life. The ride will also feature an updated queue line, with the entrance being located next to the Superman Escape roller coaster.
