Disney has confirmed that the Cars Land expansion at Disney California Adventure will open on June 15, 2012, with the Buena Vista Street entrance area debuting on the same day.
The company's CEO, Bob Iger, had previously only revealed that Cars Land would open some time in June. He has has now made the June 15 date official, although it is likely that "soft openings" of both areas will take place before then.
Disney has released a new video that shows off progress behind the construction walls in both areas. It includes footage of the Radiator Springs Racers, Luigi's Flying Tires and Mater's Junkyard Jamboree attractions undergoing testing in Cars Land, with the Red Car Trolleys being put through their paces on Buena Vista Street:
Anchored by $200 million E-Ticket attraction Radiator Springs Racers, Cars Land marks the final phase of a $1.1 billion series of upgrades to Disney California Adventure. The expansion will be home to two other rides, along with a number of dining outlets and retail stores. These will be arranged along a recreation of Route 66, as seen in Pixar's Cars movies.
Buena Vista Street will be designed to evoke 1920s-era Los Angeles, as it would have appeared when Walt Disney himself migrated there. Named after the Burbank street upon which the animator's original studios are located, the area will replace Sunshine Plaza as the entranceway to Disney California Adventure.
