Busch Gardens Tampa has submitted plans to install a new drop tower ride for the 2013 season, on the site of the soon-to-be-relocated Sandstorm attraction.
ParkRumors reports that the plans were filed with the South West Florida Water Management District last week. While they are light on detail, drawings submitted by Busch Gardens Tampa show an overhead view of a drop tower-style ride. This suggests that the park is set to follow in the footsteps of sister park Busch Gardens Tampa, which installed the Mach Tower drop tower in 2011.
However, while the Virginia park purchased its spinning drop tower from Italy's Moser Rides, it is not clear who will supply Busch Gardens Tampa's version. The ride appears to feature 8 sets of seats in an octoganal layout, each holding 4 riders. This differs from the circular layout used by Mach Tower, which opened several months late after requiring the addition of shock absorbers at its base.
Busch Gardens Tampa recently revealed plans to move the Sandstorm ride, although it is not yet known where it will be re-homed. The park's last major addition was the Cheetah Hunt multi-launch roller coaster in 2011.
