The Universal Orlando Resort has released high-level plans for the site of the demolished Jaws ride, which appear to support rumors that a new Harry Potter land will be installed in its place.
It widely expected that a new area based on the Diagon Alley area of London seen in the Harry Potter movie series will constructed at Universal Studios Florida, complementing the existing Wizarding World of Harry Potter at neighbouring Islands of Adventure. The plans, discussed in this Inside the Magic article, show a large building that is expected to house the rumored Gringotts Bank roller coaster. A number of smaller buildings will surround this, but it is not clear what their function will be.
Meanwhile, detective work by fan site HHNRumors.com appears to have confirmed that Universal's "Project 722" relates to a Harry Potter attraction. By searching on social network LinkedIn, the site has been able to discover that several former members of the production staff on the Harry Potter movies are now working on the project. Universal's planning application for the Jaws site refers to Project 722, appearing to confirm the rumors.
Universal Studios Florida is yet to confirm the nature of Jaws' replacement, but there have been persistent rumors that a Harry Potter land is on the cards. This would enable the Universal Orlando Resort to further exploit the success of the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, encouraging guests to buy tickets for both of its theme parks rather than just Islands of Adventure.
