Universal's Cinematic Spectacular concept art

A new water, lights and projection show dubbed Universal's Cinematic Spectacular will debut at Universal Studios Florida in Spring 2012.

The new addition had been widely expected, with Universal confirming it in a webcast on January 25. Universal's Cinematic Spectacular will help bolster the line-up at Universal Studios Florida, a park which has been overshadowed by neighboring Islands of Adventure since the 2010 debut of the Wizarding World of Harry Potter.

Universal's Cinematic Spectacular: 100 Years of Movie Memories will take place in the park's lagoon, and will feature an array of fountains, onto which scenes from famous movies will be projected. This has inevitably drawn comparisons with the World of Color show at Disney California Adventure, although initial concept art appears to show that Universal's show will be on a smaller scale.

Narrated by Morgan Freeman, the show will feature scenes from some of Universal Picture's most iconic movies. It will be performed nightly throughout the summer, and then on select dates during the off-season.
