Universal Studios Hollywood has confirmed that Transformers: The Ride - 3D will open at the park in May 2012, and has released new video footage of the attraction.
Although the park is yet to commit to a firm opening date, the May opening window suggests that the new ride could open in time for the Memorial Day celebrations.
Universal Studios Hollywood has launched a teaser website for Transformers: The Ride- 3D at www.prepareforbattle.com, in addition to releasing the trailer embedded below.
The trailer features footage from the ride, including well-known Transformers characters Bumblebee and Optimus Prime. It offers a sneak peek at the attraction, which will place riders into the middle of the movies' war between the human-friendly Autobots and their Decepticon enemies. As in the films (and the earlier toys and cartoons), the robots will "transform" into cars, planes, tanks and other vehicles.
Transformers: The Ride - 3D will retain the look-and-feel of the Transformers movie trilogy. A version of the attraction has already opened at Universal Studios Singapore, with the Hollywood installation expected to be largely identical.
The ride will reuse technology from the Amazing Adventures of Spiderman attraction at Universal Orlando's Islands of Adventure, combining 3D animation, animatronics and flight-simulator elements. It will replace the closed Backdraft and Special Effects Soundstages attractions in the Universal Studios Hollywood's Lower Lot, with construction having begun in Fall 2009.
