The Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Orlando is to be expanded, although the company is yet to confirm details of the planned new additions.
Universal confirmed the expansion during a press conference to announce a second version of the Wizarding World for Universal Studios Hollywood. Univeral Studios Parks and Resorts CEO Tom Williams said of the plans: "we are thrilled to take what has been created in Orlando to even greater levels."
No details of the expansion were given at the press conference, but rumors are strongly pointing to a second Harry Potter area being opened at Universal Studios Florida. This would replace the Jaws ride and surrounding Amity area, which will close in January 2012. This addition would enable Universal Orlando to boost attendance at both of its theme parks, but it is still possible that the expansion will actually take place in areas adjacent to the existing Wizarding World of Harry Potter in Islands of Adventure.
The rumors claim that the Amity area will be transformed into a recreation of London as seen in the Harry Potter movies, including a version of the murky Diagon Alley. Despite the large distance (and a number of obstructions) between the location of Amity in Universal Studios Florida and the site of the existing Wizarding World of Harry Potter, there are even claims that a version of the Hogwarts Express train could be built to link the two.
