Pandemonium to close permanently at Six Flags Discovery Kingdom on December 31, 2011

Pandemonium at Six Flags Discovery Kingdom

Six Flags Discovery Kingdom will close its Pandemonium roller coaster on December 31, 2011, before removing it to make room for a new ride in 2012.

Pandemonium is expected to be relocated to another of Six Flags' theme parks, and will operate until the final day of Discovery Kingdom's 2011 season. It is being dismantled to enable the construction of Superman: Ultimate Flight, a launch coaster that will blast riders through a 150-feet-tall inversion.

Originally named Tony Hawk's Big Spin, the ride was renamed to Pandemonium in 2010 when Six Flags ended its licensing agreement with the skateboarding star. The Gerstlauer steel spinning coaster is identical to other models at Six Flags New England, Six Flags Fiesta Texas, Six Flags Over Texas and Six Flags St Louis. It features cars that spin as they traverse the circuit.

Its replacement, Superman: Ultimate Flight, will be manufactured by Premier Rides. It will hit a top speed of 62 miles per hour and will pack a number of inversions into its compact layout.
