Hong Kong Disneyland has officially opened its new Toy Story Playland area, marking the completion of the first phase of its ambitious expansion plans.
Toy Story Playland "shrinks" guests down to the size of a toy, featuring oversized recreations of children's play things. It hosts three new attractions themed around characters from Pixar's Toy Story movies: RC Racer, Slinky Dog Zigzag Spin and Toy Soldiers Parachute Drop. All three are themed versions of off-the-shelf rides commonly seen at other theme parks around the world.
The new land is near-identical to the Toy Story Playland at Walt Disney Studios, Paris, which opened in 2010. Theme Park Tourist's review of Toy Story Playland at the Paris park gives a detailed overview of each of the area's rides.
Two other lands will open at Hong Kong Disneyland as part of its expansion. The first will be Grizzly Gulch (due to open in 2012), which will be followed by Mystic Point (due to open in 2013). Grizzly Gulch will feature a major new rollercoaster dubbed Big Grizzly Mountain, while Mystic Point will feature a new dark ride known as Mystic Manor.
