Hong Kong Disneyland is gearing up for the opening day of its new Toy Story Playland area, which will officially debut on November 18, 2011.
The first of three new lands that will open as part of a major expansion to the park, Toy Story Playland is near-identical to the area of the same name that opened at Walt Disney Studios, Paris in 2010. Several "soft openings" have already taken place, enabling guests to try out the land's three new rides in advance of its official opening date.
Inspired by Pixar's Toy Story movie trilogy, Toy Story Playland "shrinks" guests down to the size of a toy, featuring oversized recreations of children's play things. It hosts three new attractions themed around Toy Story Characters - RC Racer, Slinky Dog Zigzag Spin and Toy Soldiers Parachute drop. Details of the existing versions of these attractions at the Disneyland Resort Paris can be found in Theme Park Tourist's review of Toy Story Playland.
The other two lands that will join the expanded Hong Kong Disneyland will be Grizzly Gulch (due to open in 2012) and Mystic Point (due to open in 2013). Grizzly Gulch will feature a major new rollercoaster dubbed Big Grizzly Mountain, while Mystic Point will feature a new dark ride known as Mystic Manor.
