Universal Studios Singapore has confirmed that its long-awaited new addition, Transformers The Ride, will open to the public on December 3, 2011.
The attraction, which has previously been referred to by the full name Transformers The Ride: The Ultimate 3D Battle, will be based on the movie series directed by Michael Bay. It will place riders at the center of a battle between the human-friendly Autobots and the evil Decepticons, and will reuse technology from The Amazing Adventures of Spiderman at Universal Orlando's Islands of Adventure.
An exclusive evening event will be held on December 2 to mark Transformers The Ride's debut, with Bay himself due to attend. He said of the attraction: "I am very excited about the debut of this attraction at Universal Studios Singapore. Finally, Transformers fans will not only have the chance to watch the Autobots battle the Decepticons on screen; they’ll actually be part of the action.”
Transformers The Ride will include a waiting area themed around a top-secret facility operated by NEST, the shadowy organisation that features in the Transformers movies. At its heart will be a shard of the AllSpark, a cube of energy that creates life from mechanical objects. The robots will both do battle over this object, with riders being carried inside a new Autobot known as EVAC.
The attraction's scenes will include subway tunnels, city streets and rooftops, with EVAC being hunted down by the Decepticons. The story of the 4-minute ride is said to be a "natural follow-up" to the movies, rather than based on them directly. It will be told through a variety of simulator and 3D effects.
Universal Studios Singapore hopes to gain a boost in attendance following the opening of Transformers The Ride, and plans to offer a range of special year-end holiday packages. Those booking a package will receive a Transformers The Ride commemorative souvenir and express entry to the attraction.
Universal Studios Hollywood is planning its own version of the new ride, which will be known simply as Transformers: The Ride - 3D. The US version is due to open in spring 2012.
