The Big Debate: What should LEGOLAND Windsor's new attraction for 2012 be?

LEGOLAND Windsor entrance

The excitement of building using LEGO bricks is a fond childhood memory for many of us, so having the chance to go to a theme park full of LEGO landmarks and rides is a dream.

I wasn't lucky enough to go to LEGOLAND as a child. However, my first visit as a 22-year-old still saw me gazing up in amazement at the thousands of tiny bricks making up the Empire State Building and Buckingham Palace in Miniland. Everywhere I looked were famous iconic buildings with moving boats and cars - the attention to detail was stunning.

This week, with early rumors that the upcoming attraction to replace Rocket Racers at LEGOLAND Windsor could be an indoor extension of Miniland, it got me wondering what our readers would most like to see next at the park. Therefore, this week's Big Debate asks exactly that question. Would you be happy with a Miniland-style addition, or would you prefer a totally new ride?

In 2011, the greatly anticipated Atlantis Submarine Voyage opened to favourable reviews. It is the first LEGO-themed underwater ride in the world, using a combination of Sea Life exhibits and LEGO sculptures to tell the story of the lost city of Atlantis. It has drawn large crowds throughout the summer season.

On our visits to LEGOLAND Windsor, the attractions with the longest queues have been the Driving and Boating Schools as well as the Fire Academy. Very tired and frustrated children (and parents) wait in line - often for well over an hour - to get a chance to take the wheel for just a few short minutes.

On the other hand, whenever we have wandered around Miniland it has often been fairly quiet and certainly free of the enormous crowds seen in the rest of the park. This may be due to the fact it is very large and you can wander around at your own leisure, or it could be because for children the thrill of racing around the driving school track or climbing aboard a submarine ride is more of a draw.
