The Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World celebrated its 40th anniversary on October 1, 2011, with a special parade and a spectacular fireworks display.
After a parade along Main Street USA to Cinderella Castle, Disney characters were joined on stage by Meg Crofton, president of the Walt Disney World Resort. Cast Members with 40 years of Walt Disney World experience also took to the stage, before the crowd were invited to join in a chorus of "When You Wish Upon a Star".
Limited edition merchandise was on-sale throughout the park, including a special commemorative T-shirt. Famous Disney artists signed autographs and met with fans at the Diamond Horseshoe in Frontierland and Uptown Jewelers on Main Street USA, while the nightly "Wishes" fireworks display was augmented with additional pyrotechnics to mark the occasion.
