Disney fans looking to take home a piece of the magic can now buy animatronic creatures direct from one of the company's key suppliers.
Garner Holt Productions, which has produced animatronics for a range of attractions at Disney and Universal theme parks, has launched a new product division known as GHP Products. While targeted mainly at professionals working in the entertainment business, the company also promises that it will offer products for "discriminating consumers".
At present, those consumers will have to have deep pockets. GHP Products' primary offering initially is a "theme park quality" animatronic parrot, which wouldn't look out of place in Disney's Enchanted Tiki Room show. Entirely customizable "from feathers to perch" and claimed to be easy to install and program, the bird is priced at a minimum of $12,000.
Packed with features, Kali is an animated blue and gold Macaw, and includes a wide range of functions. The bird comes complete with a control system and software, an audio playback system, remote infrared activation and a themed perch.
Kali can play back audio in MP3 format stored on a 4GB micro-SDHC memory card. Actions and audio clips can be triggered via a remote control, motion sensor or through a custom app available for the iPhone and iPad.
For those on smaller budgets, the GHP Products website also offers a range of collectibles and accessories for $65 and under. The site is also selling a number of animatronic devices that were formerly used for testing.
Announcing the launch of the online store, company founder Garner Holt said: “For over three decades we’ve created quality animatronics, special effects and show action systems for theme park giants like Disney and Universal Studios, and we’ve made tremendous technological advances through our own research and development efforts. GHP Products was established to share the significant innovations that came out of our experience with other markets."
