The company behind the Extremis drop tower at the London Dungeon has reportedly let slip that it will be installing a similar ride at Alton Towers for the 2012 season.
CoasterForce spoke to Peter Ziegler of ABC rides at the European Attractions Show in London. He is said to have confirmed that Alton Towers will install one of its miniature drop towers next year, as part of a planned indoor attraction in the Forbidden Valley area of the park.
The drop tower will be located close to Nemesis, and is said to be themed around a catacomb. This has led to speculation that it could tie-in with the theme of the classic rollercoaster, possibly taking guests underground to meet the Nemesis alien itself.
Alton Towers' planning application for the ride revealed that it will be enclosed inside a large show building, and will feature heavy industrial and military theming. A 6-metre-deep basement is being excavated underneath the building, potentially providing a pit for the drop tower to descend into.
Further details of Alton Towers' new ride for 2012 are likely to be released during the coming months. No opening date has been confirmed for the attraction, but in recent seasons new additions to the park have debuted on the opening day of the full season.
