Dorney Park has become the latest Cedar Fair theme park to announce a Dinosaurs Alive! attraction for the 2012 season.
Dinosaurs Alive! will be almost identical to the version at Kings Island, which Theme Park Tourist reviewed earlier this year. However, it will be on a slightly smaller scale, featuring 37 life-size animatronic dinosaurs produced by Canadian firm Dinosaurs Unearthed.
As with the existing Dinosaurs Alive! exhibit at Kings Island and two others announced as opening at Cedar Point and Kings Dominion in 2012, Dorney Park's latest addition will not be included with a standard admission ticket. Instead, guests will have to pay an additional upcharge, expected to be around $5 per person.
Each of the dinosaurs in the exhibit will be covered in skin-like materials and will feature realistic movements. Two of the models featured in Dinosaurs Alive! will be controllable by guests via interactive consoles, which will show how scientists believe they moved their arms, tail, mouth and eyes. The largest model on show will be the Ruyangosaurus, which will reach a height of almost 40 feet and a length of 72 feet.
Alongside the dinosaurs, Dinosaurs Alive! will feature a replica excavation site and an area where children can "dig for fossils". Unlike other Dinosaurs Unearthed exhibits, it is set to be a permanent addition to Dorney Park's roster of attractions.
Dorney Park has previously confirmed that it will also add the former Invertigo rollercoaster from California's Great America to its line-up in 2012, renaming it as Stinger.
