Spielberg sparks rumors of Transformers: The Ride at Universal Orlando

Steven Spielberg has sparked rumors that a version of Transformers: The Ride could be on its way to Universal Orlando, following comments made in an interview.

Speaking to the Orlando Sentinel, the legendary movie director stated "Transformers is going to pretty amazing. We’ve been working on that for about three years now. It should be ready soon. I don’t have an announcement, yet, but it should be coming there soon." However, Spielberg could simply have been referring to the versions at Universal Studios Hollywood and Universal Studios Singapore, both of which will open during the next 12 months.

The addition of Transformers: The Ride to either Islands of Adventure or Universal Studios Florida would be a surprise. The ride utilises a very similar system to the Amazing Adventures of Spiderman attraction at Islands of Adventure, and it is unlikely that the existing attraction will be rebranded. Universal Orlando recently announced that it would invest millions in upgrading several aspects of the Spiderman ride.

As with the films (and the earlier toys and cartoons), Transformers: The Ride will feature robots that "transform" into cars, planes, tanks and other vehicles. Riders will be placed into the middle of a pitched battle between the human-friendly Autobots and the evil Decepticons.

The first version of the ride to open will be at Universal Studios Singapore, and will debut in December 2011. A near-identical attraction will open at Universal Studios Hollywood in spring 2012.
