Video game publisher Atari has confirmed that a new RollerCoaster Tycoon game will launch for Nintendo's 3DS system in 2012.
The new game will be similar in style to the original RollerCoaster Tycoon, which was released for PCs in 1999. Two sequels followed, with the most recent game in the series being released in 2004. The Nintendo 3DS version will offer a "compressed" version of the original's theme park simulation gameplay, as well as including its most popular feature - the ability for players to design their own rollercoasters.
A trailer for the new Rollercoaster Tycoon 3D game can be seen below:
Rollercoaster Tycoon 3D's gameplay will center around the design and management of amusement parks, with players challenged to bring in revenue and grow attendance. Atari has confirmed that the game will feature both scenario modes (which challenge players to meet specific goals) and a sandbox mode (in which they are free to build without constraints).
11 million copies of the first three games in the series, plus various expansion packs, have been sold to date. The Nintendo 3DS version will make use of the console's unique "glasses-free" 3D screen to add an extra dimension to the gameplay.
