Six Flags Magic Mountain has released a video of Lex Luthor: Drop of Doom, the record-breaking drop tower that will open at the park in spring 2012.
Lex Luthor: Drop of Doom will be attached to the sides of the duel towers of the 415-feet-tall Superman: Escape from Krypton rollercoaster. The attractions will be the world's tallest and fastest drop tower, with riders plunging towards the ground at 85 miles per hour.
Guests will be seated in floorless gondolas attached to two separate vertical tracks, before being dragged to the top of each tower. After a brief pause in which they will take in views of Six Flags Magic Mountain and beyond, they will then experience 5 seconds of freefall before being stopped by a magnetic braking system.
Describing the new ride, Six Flags Magic Mountain Park President Bonnie Rabjohn said: "Six Flags is known world-wide as the industry leader in delivering world-class thrills, and Six Flags Magic Mountain is proud to be at the head of the pack, offering guests the biggest and the best. We are excited to add another world record to our collection of record-breaking, first-on-the-planet attractions.”
While it will be gaining Lex Luthor: Drop of Doom, Six Flags Magic Mountain will also lose one ride for the 2012 season. The Déjà Vu inverted boomerang rollercoaster will be relocated to Six Flags New England, where it will become Goliath. This means that Magic Mountain will once again share the title of "rollercoaster capital of the world" with Cedar Point, with both parks having 17 coasters in their line-up.
