Alton Towers launches competition to find designers for SW7 rollercoaster

Alton Towers logo

Alton Towers has launched a competition that will enable the winner to become part of the design panel for its planned SW7 rollercoaster, which will open in 2013.

Fans hoping to become involved in the park's latest "Secret Weapon" project can enter via the Alton Towers website. Entrants must complete a form, which requires them to write a 100 word pitch on why they deserve to be on the panel. All entries must be submitted by Wednesday. August 31, 2011, and the winner must be aged over 18 on July 12, 2011.

The prize includes the chance to take part in discussions, focus groups and other to-be-defined activities. Alton Towers has previously claimed that the new rollercoaster will be "the only one of its kind in the world", suggesting that significant design work has taken place already.

No further details of SW7 have been released by the park, although the "world first" claim would appear to rule out many existing coaster models. Alton Towers owner Merlin is currently spending £18 million on installing a B&M Wing Rider coaster at sister park Thorpe Park.
