Knott's Berry Farm launches competition to win first ride on WindSeeker

WindSeeker render

Knott's Berry Farm is offering fans the chance to win one of the first rides on its new WindSeeker tower ride, which is set to open later in summer 2011.

To be in with a chance of being one of the riders on WindSeeker's debut voyage, entrants to the competition must produce a video that demonstrates that they are a major "adrenaline junkie". Knott's Berry Farm will select the best videos, and the creator of the one with the most views will win a seat on the new ride.

Videos should be one minute in length, and links to them should be submitted to the Knott's Berry Farm YouTube channel. Entries must be submitted by July 20, 2011 to be in with a chance of winning. Further details are given in the video below:

The July 20 closing date for the competition suggests that the opening date for the much-delayed WindSeeker has slipped still further from Knott's most recent target of mid-July. The park is the last of four Cedar Fair properties to open a version of the 301-feet-tall tower ride in 2011.

Knott's Berry Farm suffered a delayed start to its construction of WindSeeker, having switched its location to enable the long-standing Sky Cabin ride to remain in place. Despite this, it had still hoped to open the ride between Memorial Day (May 30) and the Fourth of July.

WindSeeker, announced last August, will see guests swinging in circles around a central tower in a vertigo-inducing variation on the classic "Chair-O-Plane" attraction. Riders will reach speeds of up to 30 miles per hour but will still have time to take in panoramic views of the parks and beyond. It will be the second-tallest ride at Knott's Berry Farm, after the 312-feet-tall Supreme Scream drop tower.
