Disney has released a new video showing behind-the-scenes footage of Under the Sea - Journey of the Little Mermaid, which will open as part of an expanded Fantasyland at Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom.
The video, posted to the Disney Parks Blog and embedded below, features concept art and sketches of the dark ride, as well as details of its queue. Hosted by Disney Imagineers Chris Beatty and Eric Miller, it also offers a look at the exterior of the attraction, which will be designed to resemble Prince Eric's castle as seen in the Little Mermaid movie.
Under the Sea - Journey of the Little Mermaid will be almost identical to The Little Mermaid: Ariel's Undersea Adventure, which opened at Disney California Adventure on June 3, 2011. It will feature an OmniMover ride system similar to that seen used in the Haunted Mansion ride.
As in the Haunted Mansion, the Little Mermaid attraction's vehicles will rotate to face the different scenes presented during the ride's circuit. These will tell the story of Disney's classic animated movie, The Little Mermaid. The ride will feature advanced animatronic recreations of key characters from the film, including Sebastian, Scuttle, Ursula and Ariel herself.
Under the Sea - Journey of the Little Mermaid is one of the headline attractions in the Fantasyland expansion, which is due to open in phases starting in late 2012. The updated area will also feature the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, a brand new rollercoaster based on the Snow White movie.
