Alton Towers will host a special "ghost hunt" event on Friday, July 8, 2011, allowing guests to explore the park's gothic mansion deep into the night.
The ghost hunt, organised by Paranormal Events UK, will take place between 8pm and 3.30am. It will focus entirely on the Alton Towers mansion and its surrounding gardens, which are claimed to be haunted by a number of restless spirits. Participants must be aged 18 or over, with tickets available online priced at £35 each.
The promoters of the ghost hunt claim that a variety of ghouls have been spotted in the mansion, including the spirit of a "large aggressive man" in the music room. A hooded male is said to wander the upper floors, while a white lady occupies the rose garden.
The event will be divided into 45-60 minute long "vigils", in which groups of guests will make their way to an area of the mansion to "investigate" paranormal occurrences. Free refreshments will then be provided before the groups move along to the next part of the building.
