Green Lantern rollercoaster image

The new Green Lantern rollercoaster at Six Flags Magic Mountain has been caught on video undergoing testing ahead of its official opening date on July 1, 2011.

The video, captured by YouTube user coastercrutchfield and posted to Screamscape, is embedded below. It shows the first Intamin ZacSpin coaster in the US being put through its paces by water dummies, which appear to be leaking their contents over the ride throughout.

Green Lantern was originally due to make its debut in may or June, but this has been delayed due to last-minute changes to its station. When it does open, it will bring the total number of rollercoaster at Six Flags Magic Mountain to 18 - more than any other theme park in the world.

The new ride is an identical clone of the Insane rollercoaster at Sweden's Gröna Lund Tivoli. It is themed around the DC Comics' strip of the same name, which tells the tale of a group of intergalactic police officers. The Green Lantern comic is the subject of a major motion picture that was released on June 17, 2011 starring Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively.

The ride's trains are suspended outside of the track, and can rotate independently. Half of the guests face forwards and half backwards, with their positions changing during the ride. The amount of rotation and swinging of the vehicles are dependent on the train's load distribution, meaning that the ride experience will never be predictable.

Six Flags Magic Mountain is celebrating its 40th anniversary season in 2011, and is opening three new rollercoaster experiences to celebrate. In addition to Green Lantern, the park has already opened the updated Superman: Escape From Krypton, which was recently reviewed by TPT. The other addition is Road Runner Express, a Vekoma Junior Coaster that has been relocated from the closed Six Flags New Orleans park.
